KIREI DA YO

“Utako, it’s your turn.”

“Yes, I’m coming.”

A 166 cm young girl walked with her high heels to the stage, she took a deep breath and shut her eyes before starts singing. As she began to sing, all of the audience mesmerized by her beautiful voice, some of them even close their eyes to listen her more clearly. Once she finished,  round of applause roaring  all over the room and can be heard even from outside the club.

“Again, Utako chan.”

“Yes, once again please.”

"We want more."

The audiences yelled, wanting Utako to sing more, but the owner of Hikari Club waved his hands to calm the audiences down, while Utako returned to her dressing room.

“If you are captivated by her beautiful voice, you can come and enjoy again tomorrow gentlemen, the angel only give one song for one night.” the owner smiled and bowed deeply toward the audiences who muttered in disappointment. 

“Otsukare sama Utako chan.” Jun clapped his hands when he saw his friend entering the dressing room with high heels in her hand which she took off half way there so she can walk easier.

“Never call me with that name, it’s just a stage name and sound so stupid for me.” Pout came easily on the pretty face.

“Sorry, Satoshi chan.” Jun followed his friend to sit in front of the mirror and looked at the other through it. His eyes then settled on his friend’s eyes.

“You know, you really are suited for this outfit” Jun chuckled and extended his hand to squeeze the fake breast on the other’s chest.

“Pervert, don’t touch me!” Jun found his head smacked by his friend’s fist, not hard enough to hurt him and both of them burst into laughter.

Utako or Ohno Satoshi stared at the huge mirror in front of him, his mind running back. It’s been 6 months for him to work in this club. He’s willing to disguise himself into a girl since the club owner, Aiba Masaki only hired girl singers and he can’t find another job which fit him. Beside no job give him more money than this.

Since his father passed away, he must live on his own, he has to earn money for his school and also his younger sister and he would do anything to survive. He is lucky that Jun recommended him to work here; the boss is so kind to him. The cheerful guy even agree to cover his identity so Ohno doesn’t need to be scared that he will be humiliated in his school for dressing like a girl every night.

Along the time everything went well, the guests even favour him and always call his name to sing more. Sometimes Ohno amused himself by imagined on what would happen if those old men somehow know that he is actually a man and not real women as the other singers in the club. But he's so sure that no one of his fans would notice it since Aiba strictly forbid the guests to make physical contact with him, and Ohno really grateful for that.

His eyes caught in Jun's, his best friend since High School. The most loyal friend he had ever known. Jun always stays and accompanied him during all the happiness or sadness, sometimes Ohno feel that they just like a couple, well he wish it's true. But Jun seems only consider him as his best friend and nothing more, so Ohno erased that feeling away from his head. He’s happy if Jun stays around and that’s enough, he doesn’t want to ruin their friendship with stupid love he imagined.

Jun’s father also an owner of a club abroad and Jun is too independent to still live with his parents there. That's why he lives alone at the semi-lux apartment that Ohno could never pay. Though Jun has more money than him, he never show it, never think himself higher, even willing to do part time job with Ohno, that’s why Ohno likes him so much, as his best friend, though he won't mind to change their status in near future.

“Let’s go home Satoshi.” Jun handed Ohno his usual outfit and waited the other to change.

Ohno put off his gown, his long wig and erase the make up on his face. Meanwhile Jun helped him to fold them and put it back to the original place. When everything finished, they headed to the door, but stopped immediately when a lanky man entered the room.

“Aiba san.” Ohno bowed to his boss, Aiba grinned and pat his shoulder.

“Good job Ohno kun, as always.” Aiba said, “Can we drink something before you go.”

“I am sorry Aiba san, I have to go home early tonight, I have morning class tomorrow.” Ohno replied with a smile and he saw his boss showed a little frown but then nodded his understanding.

“See you tomorrow then.”

“See you.” Ohno bowed for the last time and he stepped out of the room, Jun followed him.

“Do you think this job suit me.” Ohno muttered to his friend and Jun answered him in enthusiastically, “Of course, you’re a diva there.”   

“Haha.” Ohno laughed so bitterly, tightening his jacket when the stronger wind blew.

“Wanna eat something.” Jun suggested while circled his arm to Ohno’s shoulder, the shorter nodded and they headed to the nearest tempura shop.

The next day, as always, Ohno goes for work right after his class over. It's too bad Jun can’t accompany him today due to his assignment so Ohno walked alone to the club. He felt so exhausted when entered the dressing room, but he started to change his outfit and make up anyway. Usually Jun helped him to do that, but he has to do it alone today, he tried hard not to make anything weird on his face.

“Need help.” Aiba appeared from the door when Ohno smeared the lipstick half-way.

“I almost finish.” Ohno returned his gaze to the mirror and completed his makeup.

“We have special guest tonight, so you must sing with all your best.” Aiba winked to him and Ohno felt weird tense flared up inside his stomach, he swallowed and say, “Yes, Aiba san.”

The show time then starting and Ohno lifted his long dress when he climbs the stair to the stage. He closed his eyes before stepping out behind the curtain and the audiences’ applause welcoming him. As if it was planned before, his eyes meet someone’s across the stage, a young handsome man in a suit, his hand hold a glass of wine and a thin smile formed at the edge of his lips clearly meant for Ohno who blinked confusingly, especially when the man made a toasting movement toward him. He distracted his sight to another direction and start singing, he realized that the man eyes never leave his face and that makes Ohno so nervous. As he finished, the loud applause fill the entire club, Ohno bowed to the audiences and walked fast, almost run to the dressing room, but Aiba blocked his way.

“Ohno kun, there’s someone who wants to meet you.” Aiba grinned widely before adding in low voices, “Don’t make him recognize that you’re not a girl okay.”

Ohno stared blankly to his boss, this is a thing that Aiba never did, he never brought anyone to the backstage to meet him. He instantly thought that they must be an important person for Aiba when he saw another two men approached. One of them is the man in black suit who he met the eyes with.

“This is my best singer.” Aiba introduced him, “Utako chan.”

 “Utako chan, he is Sakurai Sho, my business partner and this is his secretary, Ninomiya Kazunari.” Aiba said while waving his hand to the guy in black suit and the shorter guy beside him. Ohno bowed quickly to the man beside Sho, he felt uneasy when Nino stared suspiciously to him.

 “It’s always a pleasure to meet such a great singer.” Sho grabbed Ohno’s hand, lifted it to his lips, and kissed it before adding “especially if the singer is in cute package like you.”

Ohno really doesn’t know how to react he couldn’t say anything but thank you in the most feminine way he could make. He exchange the glare with Aiba who smiled awkwardly and nodded slowly to him, tried to tell him to be calm.  When Sho finally released his hand, Ohno force a smile on his lips.

“I’d like to invite you to sing in my hotel.” Sho said in enthusiast tone, but Aiba coughed, “That means you want to steal him from me.” he pretend to snap.

“Maybe.” Sho laughed still smiling. However he brought a shiver to Ohno’s spine. Not to mention that Nino still stares at him in a weird way before he leaned closer to Sho and remind the other that he has a meeting tonight.

“See, it is always so easy to forget everything when you are around a beautiful lady. I’m sure we’ll meet again, Utako.” and with those words, he takes his leave with Nino.

Ohno sighed gladly and was about to put off his high heels, when Sho suddenly turned and ran back to him.

“Utako chan, this is my name-card, looking forward for your other performances.” Sho waved good bye cheerfully after handing him a card. Ohno only replied doubtfully, and then he continued his steps to the dressing room.

“What a close one.” Ohno sighed, he didn’t pay attention to his surrounding and didn’t realize that Aiba was there with him.

“He’s a good man actually.” Aiba said, and Ohno knew he talks about Sho, “and he is rich.” he continued.

Ohno didn’t know how to answer, so he just nodded and changed his outfit immediately. He secretly wished Jun were there with him, even if the guy will just going to tease him all the time but this best friend is the only one who can make him forget what has just happened. He took his bag and murmured good bye to Aiba and yawned tiredly when he walked out of the club.

Along the way, his mind still lingered at Sakurai Sho. He must be very important person, that’s why Aiba let him entered the back-stage and introduced Ohno to him. Ohno shook his head, that’s not his business, as long as this Sho guy doesn’t disturb his life or investigating him. However Ohno never know what waits for him in the future.

He walked faster to his apartment, really need to laid his back on to the bed and sleep tight. For some reason he missed Jun presence, he withdrew his phone and called his friend, but the call was unanswered. He cancelled it and continued his steps.

The next day, he saw Jun sitting on his desk at school. The tall guy rose from his chair as he saw Ohno approached and circling his arm around Ohno’s shoulder.

“I dozed off last night, sorry.” Jun mumbled to Ohno’s ear. Ohno can feel his face blushed due to the act which usually done by dating couple.

“It’s okay, I slept early too last night.” Ohno said trying to wipe off the blush on his face. He really needs to tell Jun what happened the night before, but he doesn’t know where to start.

“Jun.” He tried to call not so convincingly

“Mmm.” Jun just humming playing with the shorter long fingers.

Ohno wanted to say that he missed Jun, but he’s worry that his friend will just tease him as a spoiled brat, so he satisfied himself by saying, “Let’s have lunch together at the break time.”

Jun looked up and saw through his eyes and gave him the brightest smile, “I can’t.”

“EEhh?.”

“Just kidding Satoshi.” Jun replied, pinched on the long nose before returned to his own class and Ohno can’t help but grinning. At least he still have few hours to be himself before dressing like a lady again.
