"You come," Ohno didn't believe his own eyes when he saw the man he hadn't met for almost four years in the exhibition hall. He didn't expect Jun to come to his exhibition; they didn't keep in touch for all these times. He was ready to accept that Jun had forgotten him and he was preparing his heart for someone else, even it was easier to think of than done.

Jun smiled causally and laid his eyes on the painting on the wall. He was barely changed, his figure was as nice as Ohno remembered; his hair was shortly cut and dyed with brown color. His skin glowed under a dark-red cardigan he was wearing; Ohno was too absorbed to the scene before him that he forgot what to say.

"Your way of painting is changing," Jun commented, turning his head to Ohno.

"Do you think so?"

Jun nodded, "You use softer color, it looks more elegant, I really like it," Jun inhaled deeply. "Do you sell them?"

"It depends on," Ohno looked at the painting. Maybe Jun was right that his way of painting had changed without him realizing it. Since they broke up; everything had changed.

"Depend on how much money you will get," Jun concluded.

"It depends on who will buy it," Ohno thrust his hands into his pocket. He once again looked carefully into Jun's perfect figure. What kind of life Jun had led for these four years; what kind of place that he lived in and what kind of people he had met with? Those questions must have been shown on his face as Jun asked him.

"I'm alright, Satoshi, if that's what you want to ask," Jun extended his hand to pat Ohno's shoulder. His touch was somewhat familiar and it still made Ohno's stomach clenched.

"I'll look around," Jun turned his body and left Ohno. He inhaled a deep breath and stepped to the other side of the hall. He looked to his feet while walking, remembering what he had with Jun and how they ended up.

***

The air was chill enough, but Ohno didn't need any jackets when he walked out of his apartment to get some beer. It was a bad day for him; he wasn't in great mood and one of his dogs damaged his brush - he didn't make any progress in everything and he was too stressed to resume his delayed works.

The worst thing was Jun had no time to pay him a visit. Jun's work in an international travel agent needed his time almost 24/7 and he also went abroad for business trip - no time to cuddle Ohno in his apartment.

His friend, Aiba Masaki said that he needed a holiday - a long one to refresh his mind, but Ohno won't go without Jun. He wasn't capable enough to arrange ticket or hotel reservation, he would end up in an old hotel with bad bathroom and no hot spring nearby. Nevertheless, Jun was too busy for something so-called holiday.

He bought four cans of beer and backed home. He almost had no space to straighten his feet; the painting tools scattered on the floor, covered his carpet. Jun would scold him if he came by; it was already two weeks since they spent night together, and Ohno was too lazy to clean it.

Ohno didn't know whether their relationship was worth keeping, they seemed to drown to their own life and had no time for each other - it was Jun who was always busy. But what he said two weeks ago seemed serious.

"Please put away your brush while I'm here, Satoshi."

Ohno didn't like when someone pulled him out from his painting mood; even when it was Jun, he responded with such harsh words which made Jun slam the bedroom door angrily. He never guessed that it was a start of their separation - slowly but sure.

It had been two weeks since Jun's last visit and every time Ohno tried to reach him, the only respond he got was an answering machine. The emails he sent were replied with the usual template.

It was the next three days when Jun finally came to his apartment, it was early in the morning, and he came to announce that he would move to the branch office in Sapporo.

"Sapporo?" Ohno lifted his eyebrows. He was still sleepy and hadn't gotten his full consciousness; he thought that he was dreaming.

"I think we can't each other again," Jun said.

Ohno blinked a few times in order to see Jun's face clearer, he looked tired and sad but his brain was too swallow to absorb what Jun said.

"Satoshi, good bye."

When Ohno finally grabbed his senses; Jun wasn't there anymore. He vanished like smoke, not giving Ohno any chances to demand for an explanation.

Since that day, Ohno's painting changed into something softer and plainer; a reflection of his numbness. He thought that he was okay without Jun and he kept on lying to himself, but he couldn't lie to his painting.

The exhibition was something Ohno never thought about; all he did for these four years was painting, but it was for nothing. A friend of him who happened to be an event organizer willing to find sponsors who agreed to back up the exhibition. They were impressed by Ohno's works after all.

"Ohno san."

He turned around to see Nino who approached him with a bouquet in his hand. He knew that Nino liked him, but he doubted himself that he could start another relationship.

Nino was three years younger than him; he was a complete opposite from Jun, but Ohno could say that he enjoyed Nino’s company – he was funny and always made smart jokes. He didn’t demand Ohno’s attention; sometimes Ohno wondered what made Nino stay.

"For you," he handed the bouquet. "It's so cool, I don't understand art that much, but it's still cool.”

“Thanks,” Ohno took the bouquet and let Nino circle his hand on his elbow. They walked around the hall in silence. Nino left around noon, mumbling that he had to work part time.

The exhibition was almost over for that day when he finally found Jun again; he looked at the same painting again like this morning, his face showed a soft expression, as if seeing something everyone else couldn’t inside that painting.

“You’re still here,” Ohno approached him.

“I’m going to leave for Akita tomorrow morning, so I want to spend as much time as I can here.”

An intense silence fell between them for a minute or so.

“Jun, if you’re free tonight, maybe we can have dinner…”

“I’m going to get married,” Jun cut him. “He’s a government official, I’ll move to his place by the end of this month. I hope you can attend our wedding.” Jun’s face was smiling broadly when he spoke, but Ohno felt that he would get a heart attack or something close to that since he found that he was breathless all of a sudden.

He imagined Jun and an unknown man in a particular church; kissed each other lips and vowed that they would love each other until the end of time. He needed a good five minutes to find his voice again.

“Oh, er-congratulation,” he smiled sourly. “I’m happy for you.”

“Satoshi,” Jun took his hand and squished his fingers softly. “Good bye.”

“A good bye again,” Ohno mumbled as he watched Jun disappeared among the crowds.

***
Ohno didn’t attend the wedding since he had to accompany Nino for an audition in a music contest outside of Tokyo. He kept the painting from the exhibition and sent it to Jun for present. He looked at the invitation card on his lap and a weird jealously sneaked into his heart, even though he had no right to feel so.

“Whose wedding is that?” Nino peeked and took the card.

“Nobody. They sent it to the wrong address,” Ohno said, inserting the card to his rucksack. He inhaled deeply and smiled at himself; maybe it happened for the best after all.
