LAST CHAPTER

“Kazu, don’t you go for school today?” Masaki’s voice heard and Kazu opened his eyes slowly, the sun light goes through the window and he realized that he’s already late for school. He collected his memories from the day before, one thing for sure, he will never meet Satoshi again, his mother took him away and didn’t even care to tell him where she would take Satoshi.

He moved from his bed, he still didn’t get the answer about who was Satoshi visited in that graveyard, who was dead? He rubbed his hair and his head is very dizzy, he didn’t want to go for school, his eyes wandered and caught the painting brush which given by Jun and he should hand it to Satoshi but he always forget it, he doesn’t know when will he see Satoshi again just to give this brush.

He walked out to follow Masaki, his brother sits in front of television, but his eyes seems didn’t catch anything from it, he looked away, out of the window, “Masaki nii chan.”

The elder turned his head to him and smiled, “Kazu, what happened yesterday? You didn’t tell me anything yet,” Masaki asked him, he sits next to his brother, nothing can replace Masaki’s warmth for him, this man is the best brother he could have. He started to tell everything to Masaki and he still curious why Satoshi went to that graveyard and he doesn’t have any clue where Satoshi will go and how his mother looked at him like a bug which attach to her shoes, he wanted to cry but try to hold his tears, at least, Satoshi forgives him for what he had done.

“I felt all alone,” Kazu whispered, he doesn’t know who he is for sure, nobody gives him clear explanation, he sighed, Masaki holds him, “You’re not alone, I am still here for you,” the elder rubbed his hair and smiled widely, “Thank you nii chan,” he replied and for the rest of the morning, both of them looks out the window, drown on their own mind, until Kazu decided to go out for walk and he found Sho joined him half of his way, the other still carry his school bag, perhaps he just back home from school, but Kazu isn’t in the mood to begin the conversation, so he kept silent, Sho understands it well,the other walked beside him, joined him in silent, not asking where will he goes, even when Kazu jumped up to the bus, at least he has a friend to go with.

They ended up at the beach where Kazu went when he had his fight with Satoshi, and realized how kind Sho is for the first time.

“Nice place,” Sho speaks for the first time and Kazu nodded, he lied down on the sand and looked up to the blue sky, he felt Sho also do the same thing beside him. He took deep breath and wished he could back to that day, he would let Jun to like Satoshi without being mad.

“Sho kun,”

“Mmm.”

“Thanks for all,” he said, still looked up to the sky.

“You’re welcome,” he heard Sho replied.

“Do you like me?” he doesn’t know why he asked this question, but he felt relieve because he can say it clearly.

“Is it necessary for me to answer?” Sho asked back and Kazu chuckled, he always know that Sho liked him since a long time, maybe he was too stupid to hate Sho for that but it was, now he’s happy when Sho is beside him, and he grabbed Sho’s hand, squished it softly while his eyes see Sho’s face.

“I like you Sho kun,” he said, Sho smiled, seems he is too happy to give him an answer, they stay like that for long time, until the sun completely disappeared from the evening and they are surrounded by pretty darkness, Kazu withdraw his phone and surprised to see who sent him a message, it was Satoshi.

“Meet me at the park tomorrow, however I want to say proper good-bye to you Kazu”

He blinked confusingly, before the meaning of the message hit his head, “Satoshi,” he speaks to himself but for sure, Sho heard him.

“What’s wrong?” Sho asked him.

“Satoshi sent me a message, told me that he wanted to meet me at the park tomorrow, he wants to say good bye,” Kazu answered, he shrugged in disappointment, half of his heart wished that Satoshi will cancel his plan but he’s also happy, it means he can hand the brush to Satoshi this time.

“I’ll go with you,” Sho stroked his hair softly and he nodded, they walked back to bus station and bought some breads for emergency dinner, as usual, they choose the back seat on the bus, this time Kazu rested his head to Sho’s sloppy shoulder while chewing the bread on his hand.

Kazu brings his feet to the park the next day, Sho is right behind him, he felt anxious and Satoshi is not there yet, he played with the painting brush on his hand while waiting for Satoshi to come, finally the one he’s waiting for appeared. Satoshi walked towards him, smiled to him, Kazu replied awkwardly, it’s really weird to see Satoshi as if he is the stranger for him.

“Thanks for coming, Kazu,”

“I am the one who should say that,” Kazu muttered, he looks around before locking his gaze to Satoshi’s face, “Here,” he handed the brush to Satoshi, “Jun gave it to you,” he explained, though Satoshi didn’t ask him anything.

“Thank you,” Satoshi took the brush, he checked it, and he looked back to Kazu, “I’ll go abroad,” he said.

“Eee? What?” Kazu stared to Satoshi’s plain face, to find a lie there, but he was sure that Satoshi is not lying to him, he told him the truth.

“Good luck for you then,” Kazu doesn’t know what to say, he just knew that Satoshi holds him tight right after that, “I am sorry,” he whispered, “Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” Satoshi whispered back, somehow Kazu felt that they returned to their past days, when he and Satoshi talked about things inside his room, hid it from Masaki.

“May I know why you were at the graveyard yesterday?”

“I can’t tell you, you must find the answer by yourself, too harsh if you know now,” Satoshi pulled himself from him, “When will you go back?” Kazu asked.

“I don’t know, soon after I finished my school,” Satoshi stepped from him and wave him good bye, “Take care Kazu,” he shouted and Kazu replied waving his hand, felt something missing and he loses Satoshi once again, Sho approached him from behind, patted his shoulder softly.

“Let’s go home,” Sho tugged his hand and Kazu followed the taller steps, he didn’t want to think right now, “Can we walk around Sho? I don’t want to go home,” Kazu checked his watch, this is too early to return home, he still want to distract his mind from what just happened.

“As you wish,” Sho circled his arm to him and they walked together around the town without certain destination, Satoshi didn’t mention which country he will go to, but Kazu hopes the other will tell him everything one day, when they grow older and realize how naïve are they now. The dark comes down, covered the town and the decided to go home or Masaki will be panic, searching for him, Kazu didn’t meet their father after they found the letter but he doesn’t mind it at all since he doesn’t know what to say or who to blame, he just want to come back home, seeing Masaki there who always cook the most delicious food for him.

“Sho, would you have dinner at my place? I’ll tell Masaki nii chan to cook more for us.”

“My pleasure, I can’t believe those words finally come from your mouth,” Sho giggled and Kazu smiled back to him, tighten his grip to Sho’s arm, he tilted up to the sky when a plane crossed it, maybe Satoshi is in that plane, fly to chase his future, he must do the same thing, doesn’t want to lose from his twin brother, not real twin but for him, Satoshi will always be his brother.

The graduation ceremony for Kazu come, he repaired his tie on his neck and headed the school with Masaki, their father told them he can’t make it on time, but promised them that he will come later, Sho also accompany him, look so neat in his own suit.

“You look handsome nee,” Masaki compliment him when they’re walk toward the school hall, Sho patted his shoulder and three of them headed the seats, side by side. Kazu receipted his certificate and as expected he became the best graduate of his grade, if Satoshi were still here, what will he say? He wandered what Satoshi is doing right now.

“We’ll have the party tonight, to celebrate it,” Masaki stroked his hair and Kazu nodded, he forgets his thought about Satoshi and assured himself that Satoshi will come back one day here.

5 years later.

Kazu prepared his music scores  for his performance in a painting  exhibition that night, he glanced to them, page by page to check if there’s anything wrong, he put it in front of him and ready to play, but he has to wait for his turn.

“You may start,” the staff gave him a code and he begin to move his fingers on the piano, concentrate to his scores and once in a while he glanced to the attendants of the exhibition, he found his senior, Jun among them, felt that man was his forgotten thing, he doesn’t see Jun for a long time since he graduated, the man looked at the paintings seriously.  

“Great music,” as he finished his play he heard a voice, he turned his head and saw a man standing there, a hat on his head and the familiar face welcomed him.

“Satoshi,” Kazu thinks he was mistaken, but when he sees this man clearly, he is Satoshi, nobody else.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you I would come, but I was glad to know you’re the performer for this exhibition, I watched you since the beginning,”

Kazu can’t answer; he stood up and stepped closer to the man before him, “Finally you came,” that’s all he said, he wants to talk many things with him, share everything to him, when he’s about to spill out another words, Jun approached them, “Satoshi, there are some people ask about your painting,” the taller just saw Kazu, “Ah Kazunari kun, I’ve should know, errrr can I lend Satoshi for a while, we’ll be right back.”

Kazu just nodded and he watched Jun is dragging Satoshi with him, he didn’t realize this exhibition is held by Satoshi himself, he felt stupid for not checking it, but it doesn’t matter now, Satoshi is here and he still curious about his unanswered question, he will ask it later. Seems Jun chased for Satoshi that far and he is glad they are together, he withdrew his phone and typed a message for Sho.

“I’ll be late coming home,”

He lives together with Sho almost for six months already and he knows that Sho will call him non-stop if he’s late. He sit down again, waiting for Satoshi to comeback.

The end
